While I was in Brasil last summer, the television, the radio, the newspapers, the bus stops and dinner tables were filled with talk about the upcoming presidential election. As some of you may know, I have been involved in politics in the past and take an active interest in the political world.Today, the people of Brasil, elected Dilma Rousseff as their president - this is the first woman to be elected to the highest political office in Brasil. She and her Workers' Party will govern the people of Brasil for the next 4 years. She takes office on January 1st, following in the footsteps of the previous leader of the Workers' Party (and current President) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who retires from office after two consecutive terms.
As Brasil continues to play an active role on the international stage in politics, culture, sports and the environment, I suspect that we will hear more about this government. I pray that the Lord may grant the new government of Brasil wisdom to discern the direction in which to take this amazing country and people. May they follow the words of the prophet Micah and govern in such a way that they do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God!
